Sian Williams to quit BBC Breakfast along with Chris Hollins

TV BREAKFAST host Sian Williams will quit rather than move North as part of a BBC moving plan. Her decision to remain in London and not uproot her family is recalled by sports presenter Chris Hollins.

Chris has made it clear that he has no intention of shifting to the show’s new HQ at Salford Quays.

But Bill Turnbull has opted to stay with the show, despite expressing reservations about the “very big question of getting bottoms on the sofa”.

Mother-of-three child, Susanna Reid is now being lined up as the main female presenter. A source revealed:

“She’d jump at the chance. Susanna loves the BBC and this is her dream job.”

The departure of popular Sian will come as a huge blow to BBC News bosses, who were hoping to persuade her to stay. She and Turnbull have been friends for nearly two decades and have an army of fans.

Mum-of-four Sian may, however, commute to Greater Manchester for a short while to help smooth the transition later this year. Her agent insisted yesterday:

“This is not about going to Salford, but about a decade of getting up before the dawn chorus. We’ve been talking to the BBC for the past six to nine months about potential new roles where she doesn’t need to use her alarm clock quite so frequently.”

The decision to transfer

The decision to transfer the three-hour BBC1 program to Salford was announced last July. Staff have been given until the end of this month to decide whether to quit the show or move it and have organized a “Salford or f*** it” drinks party to mark Thursday’s deadline.”

Hollins has been critical of the move from the beginning. He has told bother he will stay in London to focus on other TV roles. Another presenter, Louise Minchin, will stay in London to concentrate on the news.

Other departments going to Salford include CBBC, CBeebies, Radio 5 Live, and BBC Sport. The switch involves 2,500 staff that will cost £877 million.
