Jalen Carter is charged with racing in a fatal crash
Jalen Carter, a defensive tackle from Georgia who is predicted to be one of the top players in the upcoming NFL draft, has been accused of reckless driving and racing.
It is in connection with a car accident that resulted in the deaths of offensive lineman Devin Willock and a member of the recruiting staff.
According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s arrest warrant, Carter was competing in a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk race against Chandler LeCroy’s 2021 Ford Expedition, the recruiting staff member who lost her life in the collision.
Lt. Shaun Barnett of the Athens-Clarke County Police Department expects Carter to return to Athens to handle the arrest warrant, despite his scheduled attendance at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis on Wednesday.
In an e-mail to the AP, Barnett further said:
“It is my understanding that Mr. Carter is making arrangements to turn himself in.”

The accident resulted in the death of two people
A car accident in downtown Athens on January 15, 2023 charged Jalen Carter. It tragically resulted in the death of Chandler Louise LeCroy, a University of Georgia staff member, and Devin Alex Willock, a football player.
The accident took place after the Bulldogs celebrated their second consecutive national championship. Police believe LeCroy participated in street racing with Carter, who was driving a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk.
LeCroy, who was driving a 2021 Ford Expedition and had a blood alcohol content of 0.197, more than twice the legal limit, failed to make a proper turn at a high speed and crashed into two poles and trees before stopping against the door of an apartment building.
Willock fell from the vehicle while not using a seat belt, injuring Warran McClendon and Victoria Bowles as well as other passengers.
LeCroy’s car and the other car were traveling at more than 83 mph, and her speedometer showed this before it broke during the accident. It was a tragic incident.
Jalen Carter responded on Twitter on Wednesday
Jalen Carter also responded to the allegations against him with a statement on his verified Twitter account on Wednesday:
“This morning I received a telephone call from the Athens Georgia police department informing me that two misdemeanor warrants have been issued against me for reckless driving and racing.”
He further added:
“It is my intention to return to Athens to answer the misdemeanor charges against me and to make certain that the complete and accurate truth is presented. There is no question in my mind that when all of the facts are known that I will be fully exonerated of any criminal wrongdoing.”
