Mark Sheehan, the guitarist of The Script dies aged 46
Irish musician Mark Sheehan, who was the guitarist and co-founder of The Script, has passed away at the age of 46. The band announced the tragic news in Twitter.
After a brief illness, the talented musician took his last breath in a hospital according to an official statement from the Irish rock band.
The band has also asked for privacy during this sad time.
“Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”
The guitarist was due to join his band later this year to support P!nk for her European tour.
Sheehan is survived by his wife of 20 years, Rina, and their three children.

He was married to his wife for two decades
Mark Sheehan was a happily married man who loved his family. He lived in the United States with his wife Rina and their three children.
The couple preferred to keep their personal lives away from the public eye. Besides being a member of The Script, Sheehan also valued his privacy and made sure to shield his family from the attention that came with fame.
Rina, who is originally from Texas, met her late husband when she joined the band as a studio backing singer after he relocated to the US.
Describing how he met his wife in 2008, he told the Irish Mirror:
“Rina is from Texas, we met on the road. I was producing and working in different studios. We just kind of clicked in the usual way you do.”
They exchanged wedding vows in a private ceremony in 2005. The couple welcomed their first child, Cameron, in 2008, followed by Avery and Lil.
He was known to be a family man and missed almost a year of gigs in 2021 and early 2022 to spend time with his beautiful family. Lead singer Danny O’Donoghue said during the time:
“His children needed a father and his wife needed a husband.”
Tributes poured in for Mark Sheehan
After the band announced the sudden passing of Mark Sheehan, tributes started to pour in for the Irish rock star.
The president of Ireland, Michael D Higgins wrote a lengthy and heartfelt tribute on his official website describing him as an “outstanding” example of Irish musical success.
“All those who knew Mark Sheehan, and those millions more who enjoyed and appreciated his music, will have been deeply shocked to hear of his too-early death.”
He added:
“It was a mark of the originality and excellence that Mark and his bandmates in The Script sought that they saw such success across the world, including six number one albums in the UK and a number three album in the United States – a truly remarkable achievement.”
Irish presenter Laura Whitmore posted on Instagram:
“Thinking of you all at this time. Mark was one of the nicest and most talented men you could meet.”
Irish rock band Kodaline also posted to Twitter:
“So sorry to hear the passing of Mark Sheehan. We had the great fortune of getting to spend time in his company over the years and was always such a lovely man. Deepest condolences to his family and his @thescript brothers.”
Jedward, a famous Irish pop duo wrote:
“Everyone in the Irish music industry and worldwide mourn your loss RIP Mark such a talented musician from The Script one of the most iconic Irish groups of our generation.”
