One diamond stone engagement rings are traditional. But more and more people especially celebrities are opting for unconventional engagement rings. Some use non-diamond rings for marriage proposal, while others go for two-stone engagement rings.

Two-stone engagement rings

Traditional engagement ring is one that has a solitaire diamond embedded in the center of the ring. The ring itself might be gold or platinum band. Additionally, there may be some small diamonds studded around this solitary huge diamond in the center. Or small diamonds might adorn the band on either side for some distance.

Brides to be have worn above types of engagement rings for centuries. But now, many couples are opting for unique engagement rings that are different and expensive.

Some prefer to use other colored stones in place of diamonds in the engagement ring. These stones might be emerald, ruby, sapphire and the like.

And there are some who like to have engagement ring with two large stones instead of one. These stones may be diamond or other precious stone or both. Two stones signify the coming together of two souls to form a union. Hence, they have a sentimental value. It implies: You and me (In French, toi et moi). Josephine de Beauharnais

Josephine was the Queen of Italy and the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon asked her for her hand in marriage in 1796 with a double stone ring. The two stones were a pear-cut diamond and a blue sapphire.

Jacqueline Kennedy

Former First Lady of the US, Jacqueline Kennedy got engaged to John F. Kennedy in 1953. The ring designed by Maison Van Cleef & Arpels had a 2.88-carat diamond sitting next to a 2.84-carat emerald. Tapered baguettes surrounded these stones.

Later, she upgraded this ring and added 2.12 carats worth of marquise and round diamonds to it. This ring is on public display at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum located in Boston.

Solange Knowles

American singer, Solange Knowles, 38 had an engagement ring that had a square cut diamond that was prong set along with an emerald cut diamond. There was a small gap between these two stones.

Her then-fiancé, music director Alan Ferguson, 61 had opted for this ring that had the inspiration from Art Deco. But the couple quit in 2019 and Solange had lost this ring in 2016 at the Mardi Gras parade.

Megan Fox

The relationship of American actress, Megan Fox, 38 and American rapper, Machine Gun Kelly, 34 has its ups and downs. On 12th January 2022, Machine Gun Kelly had proposed to Megan but the engagement was called off on 21st March 2024.

Emily Ratajkowski

American actress and model, Emily Ratajkowski, 33 had a double stone engagement ring during her 2018 engagement to American film producer, Sebastian Bear-McClard, 44. Emily’s friend, Alison Chemla who is the creative director and chief designer of the jewelry brand, Alison Lou. This brand launched in 2012 in New York City.

The ring had a 2 carat princess cut diamond and the second stone was also a diamond. But it was pear cut 3 carat stone with a tilted placement. But after she split from Sebastian in 2022, she remodeled the ring into a new divorce ring.

Ariana Grande

American singer, Ariana Grande, 31 had two engagements; one with American comedian Pete Davidson, 31 and the second one with real estate agent, Dalton Gomez, 29. In the first case, the ring was with one stone but the engagement was called off. It is stated that Ariana returned the ring to Pete.

Later, in 2020, she started a relationship with Dalton. And he proposed to her the same year end. The ring was toi et moi that jeweler Jack Solow created. It had a platinum band on which a pearl and a diamond in oval shape were set.Jack told E! News:

“He had very strong feelings about how he wanted this to look, a contemporary kind of way,”
“It was his idea to do the diamond on an angle and he said to me we had to incorporate a pearl into the finished piece because it is very sentimentally special. The element of a pearl is very, very sentimentally special to Ariana. He wanted to include that in the ring.”

But this marriage ended in a divorce in 2024.
