Two-thirds to half of European holiday-makers will cancel their trips if a face mask, quarantine, and testing is made mandatory!
- Face masks are good protective gear for the current coronavirus pandemic.
- But the government insists that they have to be worn even outdoors or when a person is on a holiday and enjoying outside his accommodation.
Besides, some risks during travel, there is also the added burden of quarantine for a specified period and testing issues.
A recent survey revealed that holiday-goers would rather cancel a trip than wear a face mask when on a holiday.
The recent survey on face masks during a holiday
Face masks serve the purpose of protection from the COVID-19 virus. They are beneficial to prevent the spread of the virus.
But they also have their negative points and many people are not comfortable with them. Many state and country leaders are also against wearing face masks in public.
But there are strict rules in place that even when on a holiday, a person has to wear a face mask outdoors.
A new YouGov survey showed that at least 50% of British, German, and French holidaymakers would rather cancel their trip than go into quarantine afterward, take a test upon arrival, or wear a mask outdoors.
66% of Germans said that they would cancel their holiday since the government has now made it mandatory that people returning from 130 counts would require a test on arrival. And if tested positive, they would require quarantine.

More than half of French people said that they would cancel their trip if testing is mandatory on return. And the same number of people will cancel their fun trips if they are forced to wear a face mask outside.
Many European destinations such as the Portuguese island of Madeira and parts of Spain have asked tourists to wear a face mask in public. This is disheartening news for many holidaymakers.
And if we look at Britishers, 40%, said that they would cancel a trip if forced to wear a mask indoors. Around 70% said they would cancel if they were put into quarantine for two weeks on arrival.
So what is the solution?
If these people are set to cancel trips with the forcing of face masks and testing and quarantines on return, it would be difficult for airlines to operate with the reduced capacities.
They are already at a loss with the nearly four months of lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. And these rules would further add to their difficulties.
Many airlines and airport owners have asked the governments to reconsider their decisions on mandatory quarantines and face masks. These deter people from traveling and are harmful to the economy of the aviation industry.
But the government has yet not heeded their advice and continues to impose the newly changed rules.
Whether only social distancing and hand hygiene would assist in controlling the spread during holidays is not certain. A solution after mutual discussion needs to be reached for the welfare of all.
