Happiness and excitement are good and positive feelings. People celebrate when they are happy. However, at times, such celebrations can turn out to be fatal. This was the case with the Temple university gymnast, Tyler Sabapathy, 18. Know about the tragic death of this budding athlete from Toronto.

Tyler Sabapathy was just 18 when he met his end. He was studying at Temple university and was a college gymnast.

Philadelphia Eagles won the NFC championship this Sunday, the 26th January 2025. The fans of the winning team were thrilled and celebrated the joyous moment.

Tyler was also jubilant and climbed up a street light pole in order to celebrate the win of his favorite team. Little did he know that this climb would be the last he would have in this lifetime.

Tyler fell off this pole suffering grave brain and head injuries. His head had hit the sidewalk. He was shifted to a hospital immediately but succumbed to the serious internal injuries on Tuesday, 28th January 2025 afternoon.

Who was Tyler Sabapathy?

Tyler was studying in the first year at Temple university in Philadelphia. His university released a statement about his death. Tyler had enrolled at the University under a scholarship scheme. He was doing a degree in exercise and sports science at this university.

Tyler was fond of gymnasium and had started training in this sports at his age of 20 months at the East York Gymnastics Club. For the past 17 years, he had undergone a training at this Club, the Club spokesperson said. They released a statement that read:

Tyler was authentically himself, gregarious and kind. He had an outgoing, slightly mischievous and supportive character.”

Further, the statement added:

Tyler was a true leader in the gym. A role model for the next generation by providing the perfect dose of support and fortitude.”

More about Tyler Sabapathy’s childhood and career

A 2024 blog post of his high school, St. Michael’s College School states that Tyler was a champion. He had earned several provincial championships. Additionally, he had over 120 titles and medals in provincial, regional, and international level competitions.

When in high school, Tyler also indulged himself in gardening and was a member of the gardening club.

He was also doing 20 hours every week training in gymnastics. If that was not enough, Tyler also had joined his school music production club.

Tyler’s mother was extremely supportive of her son’s interest in sports. Tyler had stated that his mother used to drive him to and from the gym everyday. He credited her for all his wins.

The reason that Tyler went out of his country of Canada to the USA was because he wanted to learn competitive gymnastics program. And unfortunately, Canada did not offer any such course. He had sustained a number of injuries in sports during his short life. And this had motivated him to study sports science, he said in the school blog post.

The university coach, Jesse Kitzen-Abelson referred to the late Tyler as an exceptional athlete. He added that those who knew him loved him and he was outstanding.
