Why did Kit Chan not divorce her banker ‘husband’?
After nearly eight years of separation from her former banker partner, Singaporean singer and actress, Kit Chan, 52 clarified why she did not go through the divorce procedure. And if she did file for divorce, why did she keep it a secret?

The famous singer from Singapore, Kit Chan, 52 was dating a banker and seemed to be happy with him. The two had met in the year 2000 on a flight. And he was seven years elder to her. Moreover, his full name is not known but reports put his name as Han. He is supposedly a finance director.
There was news in 2012 that Kit had exchanged wedding vows with Han on 8th December. It was an intimate ceremony in the country club of Central Singapore, The Pines. There were only 100 attendees that were accommodated on eight tables.
Her hairstylist David Gan, her makeup artist Andy Lee and some friends from Taiwan were present for the ceremony.
Kit was not in a white wedding gown. But she had worn a champagne colored gown for the day. The couple only cut a cake with no walking in ceremony.
The singer is very private person with no social media accounts. She gave no interview about her marriage. But she had told once that Han’s mature character had charmed her.
Kit Chan divorce
In 2018, people and news media outlets kept asking Kit questions about her Valentine’s day celebration. Tired of these questions, she decided to inform the world the truth: that about her separation from Han. She told ST at that time:
“I’m single now. It happened last year (2017). I kept it to myself for a long time and only a few very close friends know – even my family knew about it only much later.”
After this, there were reports that Kit started divorce proceedings. However, Kit never made an official announcement on it. She felt like clarifying things at that time. But being at a delicate phase of her life, she could not gather courage to do it. Hence, she kept silent.
Kit was never married
Recently, Kit was on the CNA Insider programme The Assembly. Its third episode was aired on 16th January 2025 in which a group of journalists were asking Kit certain questions.
In this, the Singaporean poet, Stephanie Fam asked Kit the reason of keeping her divorce a secret. And Kit’s answer shocked the audience. The singer said:
“This is something that I really have never talked about… I was never divorced because I was never married.”
Further, shd explained that she did hold a dinner party but for some reasons did not legally wed Han. She added:
“When you have enough life experience, you’d know that many things are simply out of your control. When you truly get that, you will try to learn to let go. But letting go is not giving up, it is being comfortable with what comes your way, and that’s not a bad feeling,”

Kit also explained on why she did not clear things up before about her marriage:
“I just felt that I wanted to wait for an appropriate moment to explain myself. But sometimes, I felt that even if I never explained myself, I never lied. I never said I was married or divorced, I always referred to my previous relationship as a relationship. I referred to him as my partner, never my husband – that’s something reporters would have noticed if they paid attention.”
Now, Kit has a new man in her life after her divorce from Han. Her new boyfriend is her age and she is happy in this stable relationship. But again, she provided no more details about him.
