Will Smith regrets slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards in March.
On Friday, the actor posted a video on his Instagram account that began with the words It’s been a minute on the screen.
The statement further reads:
“Over the last few months, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and personal work…,”
“You asked a lot of fair questions that I wanted to take some time to answer.”
Smith sighs as he enters the screen to address why he did not apologize to Rock in his Oscar acceptance after he won an Oscar for best actor for his role in King Richard.
Will, 53, said:
”I was fogged out by that point,”
“It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk and when he is, he will reach out.”
”So I will say to you Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you are ready to talk.”

Chris Rock joked about the infamous slap at a stand-up comedy
The Pursuit of Happyness actor also apologized to Rock’s mother, and family. He also sought forgiveness from Chris’s brother Tony Rock who started in the 2007 sitcom All of Us which was made by the Smith couple.
Showing his appreciation for Tony, Chris said:
“We had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my man and this is probably irreparable.”
The apologies come after 4 months when Will took the stage at the Oscars and slapped Chris for the joke he made about Smith’s wife’s shaved head.
Smith also explained that he spent all these months replaying and understanding the nuance and the complexities of the incident in that particular month.
Will apologized to his wife, children, and those nominated with him at the Oscars.
Chris, on the other hand, joked about his slap saying:
“Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”
The Academy has banned Will from attending the Oscars for the next 10 years.
