Wiz Khalifa indicted for drug possession in Romania following festival performance

Rapper Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, faces legal troubles after his recent performance in Romania.

Earlier this year, the 37-year-old artist was arrested for illegal drug possession. During his performance at the Beach Please! Festival in Costinesti, Romania, on July 13, he was seen smoking on stage.

On October 21, Romanian prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) announced that Khalifa was indicted on October 15 for “committing the crime of possession of dangerous drugs, without the right, with a view to consumption [of his] own.”

Authorities reported that he possessed over 18 grams of cannabis and consumed additional cannabis in the form of a handmade cigarette while on stage. His case has been forwarded to the Constanta Court for trial.

If the rapper is found guilty, he could be imprisoned for three months to two years. Additionally, he has to pay a fine because owning cannabis is against the law in Romania.

Wiz Khalifa apologizes to Romania after controversial onstage incident

Following the incident, Khalifa Khalifa took to social media to express regret for his actions. The North Dakota-born rapper clarified that he did not intend to disrespect the country.

He acknowledged the respectful treatment he received from authorities during his arrest, stating,

“Last night’s show was amazing. I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up onstage, They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big a** joint next time.”

The “Black and Yellow” rapper smokes almost everywhere and at any time. Earlier this year, he humorously revealed on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that he attended a parent-teacher conference while high.

He noted that teachers “expect it” from him. He remarked,

“Hell yeah. I’m pulling up stoned. They expect it, They know what’s up. It’s not like back in the day [where] you’re considered a bad parent if you smoke weed. I’m pretty sure my son smells like weed. I don’t know because I can’t smell it but I’m pretty sure he smells like pot.”

Furthermore, Wiz often expresses his passion for smoking in his lyrics.
