The actor Cuba had been accused of groping a woman indecently over the weekend. The lady had complained and a case was filed against him at the local police station. The police have taken the matter seriously and were on the lookout for Cuba Gooding Jr.

It is learned that Cuba, 51 had handed himself up to the police on this matter. But he has firmly maintained his innocence. He told TMZ on last Tuesday that he is not guilty of any offense. He said:

“I trust the process and the system. There’s a tape that shows what really happened. That’s the most important thing.”

Nonetheless, the police arrested him. He was under arrest for 6 hours before they arraigned him in the Court.

Cuba Gooding Jr. and his offense

The incident of groping a woman had occurred last weekend on a Sunday night in a bar. He had allegedly touched the breast of the woman forcibly while they were in the bar. The woman aged 29 then called 911 in the wee hours of the morning of Monday. She put in her complaint that Cuba had touched her breast. She added that he was intoxicated and had squeezed her breast without her consent. The police charged the Oscar award-winning actor with one count of misdemeanor forcible touching.

Cuba Gooding Jr’s attorney Mark Heller went through the footage of the Sunday evening at the bar. He said that he had seen the footage for more than two hours duration, but there was no evidence of any such crime from the side of Cuba. Mark stated:

“Mr. Gooding has not acted inappropriately in any shape or form,” Heller said. “Nothing in the video could even be considered ambiguous, and I, frankly, am shocked and horrified that this case is being prosecuted.”

The police, it seems, have scanned the CCTV footage of the night at the New York bar. Now a new video has surfaced which shows the time of the incident clearly. His charge is of sex abuse of the third degree. The Manhattan criminal court has released the actor without bail. He did not talk much after the release. But when asked about the video, Cuba said:

“Watch it.”

In the video, Cuba is sitting next to a woman. He then reaches out to touch one of them. The Manhattan district attorney’s office has issued no official statement on this matter. But legal analyst Paul Batista feels that the police are dealing with his case differently due to the fame of the actor. He doubts that there the police will put him through any trial on it.

Cuba had faced a similar case in 2008. He had through his lawyer denied that allegation as well. The police also did not frame any charges against him at that time. His attorney Mark had said:

“Somebody sort of came out of the woodwork and alleged that there was a touching. I spoke to Cubey – he has no knowledge of it.”

For this Sunday’s case, he has to be in court again for a hearing on 26 June 2019. Cases of this sort carry a maximum of 15 months in jail.
