American film star, Joshua Malina and his wife of 28 years, Melissa Merwin have decided to end their marital relationship. Melissa filed for divorce, TMZ states. She is demanding spousal support.

Joshua Malina and Melissa Merwin are divorcing

Another celebrity marriage has crumbled. West Wing actor, Joshua Malina, 58 and his wife, Melissa Merwin, 61 are ending their relationship. Melissa filed for divorce, TMZ reported on 5 August 2024.

The court documents state that the pair took the tough decision to go their separate ways due to irreconcilable differences between them. There is no date of separation noted in the documents.

The couple has two children but both are adults now. Hence, Melissa, 61 is not asking for child support from Joshua. But she wants spousal support for herself.

Melissa wants an amicable end to this relationship. Therefore, probably, it would be a smooth divorce with no nastiness or custody fights.

Joshua had played the character of Will Bailey in West Wing, drama on NBC. And Melissa has worked in costume department on Fallen, Ellen, and Point of no return. But she stopped working in 1998 after her marriage.

She and Joshua met in 1992. It was Melissa’s sister, Jennifer Merwin and her husband, Timothy Busfield, who introduced Joshua to Melissa. The two began dating soon after, and after four years, they exchanged wedding vows in December 1996.

Both Joshua and Melissa were private people and kept their personal life out of media. Two years back in July 2022, Joshua had wished Melissa on her birthday. He put up a post on his Instagram and wrote below:

“Happy bday to my Maine gal, and the love of my life,”

Earlier, in 2020, Joshua had heaped praises on Melissa and their marriage through his social media. He wrote:

“I’ve been married to this beauty for 24 years!”

And in 2015 was a rare post of Melissa with flowers. Joshua captioned it:

The actor started work with Broadway in 1989. Later, he stepped into the world of television and films. He has done several shows on TV. His famous role was in West Wing that aired from 2002 to 2006.

Moreover, he starred in The Big Bang theory, Sports Night and Scandal. His recent appearances are in American horror story, Anna, This is us, Shameless, The Good doctor, and The Rookie.

In 2023, Joshua was back on Broadway. He acted in Leopoldstadt. He was extremely happy and told Bond Official:

“I grew up in New Rochelle, in Westchester county — the suburbs of Manhattan. It was a lovely place to live,”
“One great perk of being so close to the city was seeing many outstanding theaters on and off-Broadway. Sitting in the audience fed my desire to get up on stage myself. I always threw myself into any opportunity to act.”

Further, he continued:

“Returning to Broadway for the first time since appearing in Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men in 1989 is an absolute thrill, and it does feel like a return to home.”
