American gospel singer, Mandisa Hundley dead at 47!

Mandisa Hundley, 47, American singer passed away in her house in Franklin in Tennessee on Thursday, 18 April 2024.

Mandisa Hundley passes away

On 18 April 2024, American musician, Mandisa Hundley expired at her home in Franklin in Tennessee. The exact date of death is unclear since her lifeless body was discovered only on 18 April 2014.

The medical officer attending the case was unable to confirm that the body was of Mandisa. It was only after forensic testing that they could establish her identity. Davidson County medical examiner revealed it to the press over the weekend.

On Friday morning, there was a post on her Facebook account by some one near to her announcing her death. The post read:

“We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased.”

“At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details,”

“We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

Further, the post continued:

She was a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life’s challenges all around the world.”

Her father in a statement to TMZ confirmed her death and added that she suffered from no health issues at the time of her death. But he expressed shock on learning of her sudden and untimely death.

Was Mandisa’s death natural, accidental, suicide, or homicide?

On 22 April 2024, Franklin police department told Radaronline:

“At this time, there is no indication the death was the result of suspicious or criminal activity.”

The body has gone for an autopsy. The reports would be available only after 8-12 weeks. The department is conducting a thorough investigation into her death and expressed their sincere condolences to her family, friends, and fans.

David Pierce, who is the chief media officer at Christian radio station K-Love said in his tribute to the departed soul:

“Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles.”

“She is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.”

Mandisa’s career and mental struggles

In 2017, Mandisa had spoken about her depression on The Wally Show. The Grammy winner and 2006 American Idol contestant disclosed that after her song Overcomer, she fell into deep depression. Additionally, she had even thought of doing suicide at that time.

The Gospel singer was part of the season 5 of American Idol show. She was placed on position nine. Her debut album was True Beauty that she released in 2007. More album releases ensued.

Mandisa’s fifth album Overcomer grabbed her the Grammy award for the Best Contemporary Christian music album in the year 2014.

Mandisa had an addiction to food and desired weight loss. Her aim was to drop 100 pounds. She reached this goal in February 2011. However, she lost a close friend to breast cancer in 2014. And this loss led her to gain weight and spiral down into depression. She also felt that God betrayed her and started shunning public life.
