Her acting career continued with a minor role in the television drama Our Love Song (2007), and she made her Hollywood feature film debut in a supporting role in James McTeigue’s neo-noir martial arts picture Ninja Assassin (2009), in which she played Kiriko, a rebellious teenage ninja.

Journey as a band member

Sawai was signed to the Avex Trax record company while still in college, and in March 2012, she performed the United States national anthem in the Tokyo Dome to kick off the 2012 Major League Baseball season.

She was introduced as a member of the girl group ARA, an abbreviation for Avex Rising Angels a month later. In November, they debuted the music video for their first and only single “Make My Dreams Come True.”

After less than a year of marketing, the group separated in early 2013, however later that year, in July, Avex announced that Sawai would be re-debuting as one of the main vocalists for the female group Faky under the Rhythm Zone record label.

They made their debut with the track “Better Without You” in 2013. Sawai worked on a variety of solo projects while a member of Faky.

She returned to acting in 2018 with a guest appearance in two episodes of the coming-of-age mystery series Colors. She performed as part of the Think Tank Bang dance art collective in a limited-run stage performance of The Book directed by Fuko Takenaka.

Her resignation from the group was announced by Faky, who cited her wish to focus on her acting career. She gave her final performance with the band as part of their Four headlining tour.
