She was considered one of the most successful artists in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Barbara has six number-one singles and 25 top-ten singles that reached the Billboard country songs chart.

Her parents later moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where her younger sister Louise and Irlene were born. Barbara was born in Texas and raised in California mostly.
