Why did Billy Porter and Adam Smith end their marriage?
Billy Porter and Adam Smith are calling it quits after being married for 6 years.
The Pose star’s rep confirmed to People on Wednesday,
“I can confirm that Billy Porter and his husband Adam Smith have made the sad decision to end their marriage after six years,”
“The decision was an amicable and mutual one and was made after much consideration. They continue to love and support each other as they embark on this next chapter.”
The now-exes ask for privacy while they try to figure out what life has in cards for them.
The two first met at a dinner party in 2009 and dated for nearly a year before calling it quits.
While talking about their relationship, Porter told People that the couple was enamored with one another but things quickly changed as they started taking their relationship more seriously.
However, things changed and the pair tied the knot in January 2017 just two weeks after the Cinderella actor, 53, popped the question.
After their wedding, he revealed why their wedding was so important to them who both “grew up in households where who we are is labeled an abomination.”
He told the outlet,
“The thought of marriage, there was no context for it — there was no dreaming about it because there was no context to dream; it was unspoken and very clear that the sanctity of marriage was not for us,”
“So to see that come around, to see that tide turned, it still takes my breath away; I’m still trying to find the words to describe it,”

Porter changed the fashion world with his looks
Since their nuptials, Smith has accompanied the actor on many red-carpet events.
Porter, who becomes the star of the show wherever he goes has been breaking gender norms for years. Some of his iconic looks include the Christain Sirirano velvet tuxedo gown and his now immortalized Madame Tussaud’s 2020 Grammy look.
Talking about Billy’s styles, his stylist Sam Ratelle told,
“How we enter the carpet, at least during awards season … it’s a performance,”
“He’s an actor. He really tells stories through clothing. We come from theater, so the carpet becomes a stage.”
The former couple do not have any children. However, they share a cockapoo named Lola.
This was Billy’s first marriage and Adam’s second.
