He was a guest conductor with several orchestras, such as Cincinnati Pops, Cleveland Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, and San Diego Symphony etc.

In January 2009, he was also named Presidential Professor by the University of Michigan. He appeared in the short-lived AMC drama series The Divide, playing District Attorney Adam Page in September 2012. In 2015, he played the role of Detective Cal Brown alongside Wesley Snipes in the NBC procedural drama series The Player.

In 2016, he portrayed the role of Stephen Walker in Criminal Minds. Likewise, in 2022, he depicted the role of Coydog in an American drama streaming television The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.
