The actor was famous for starring as Nicholas Bradford, the youngest son on the hit sitcom Eight Is Enough between the years 1977 and 1981.
His family members confirmed his death at his Los Angeles area home.
The cause of death of the actor is still a mystery but a law enforcement source outlet said that there was reportedly no foul play. An unidentified person who visited the actor’s place found him lifeless.
Rich was born on October 12, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York. He saw instant fame as a child artist in Eight is Enough.
In his childhood, Rich attended Chatsworth High School and learned drama from the same teacher who also taught Hollywood legends Like Kevin Spacey and Val Kilmer.
The ABC series starring Dick Van Patten, Lani O’Grady, Connie Needham, Grant Goodeve, and others was a famous one that went on for four years.
The late Van Patten praised Adam in a 2011 interview with Stephen J. Abramson.
He said:
“I think he’s why the show was a big success,”
“People loved him! [Fans] named a child Nicholas and everything because of him,”
“He was cute, and he was a good actor. He was very natural.”
Rich’s struggle with fame and drug abuse
Rich’s other acting work includes Code Red, Dungeons & Dragons, Small Wonder, St. Elsewhere, and Baywatch.
Rich also made a brief return to TV in 2003 by appearing in a cameo role in Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star directed by David Spade. He also appeared in Reel Comedy playing Crocodile Dundee.
After receiving fame for his role, the actor grew tired of the media attention and turned his back on the entertainment industry.
The actor had trouble with substance abuse issues and battled with it for quite some time. But it got worse when he was arrested in 1991 after smashing a pharmacy window to steal drugs.
Dick Van Patten, who was his TV dad on Eight is Enough was the one to bail him out.
The troubled actor spent years in and out of rehab. He was once again arrested in 2002 on charges of driving under the influence after nearly hitting a California Highway Patrol car.
He denied all the charges put against him and said “I’ve been sober for 10 years.”
