Elton John opens up about losing vision of his right eye due to infection
Elton John recently revealed that he has lost vision in his right eye due to a severe eye infection he contracted while vacationing in the south of France in July.
During a charity performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical in London, John shared with the audience that he has been unable to see properly, stating,
“I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight. So it’s hard for me to see it. But I love to hear it and, boy, it sounded good tonight,”
The 77-year-old pop icon expressed gratitude towards his husband, David Furnish, calling him his “rock” during this challenging time.
Furthermore, he said that he really enjoyed the musical, even though he couldn’t watch it, saying,
“I love to hear it and it sounded good tonight”
In September, John first disclosed his condition on Instagram, mentioning that he had “only limited vision in one eye” and that his recovery would take time.
He shared that it has been four months since he lost sight in his right eye, and his left eye is also not functioning well.
Although he remains optimistic about his recovery, he struggles with tasks like reading lyrics and working in the studio due to his vision problems.
In an interview with “Good Morning America” on November 25, Mayer discussed how his vision issues have impacted his work.
Despite these challenges, he expressed a positive outlook on the progress he has made. He stated,
“So, there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but… I’m kind of stuck at the moment, because I can do something like this (the interview), but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for a start.”
