Famed Kenyan singer, Esther Akoth reveals the reason of her divorce in June last year!

It was a brief married life for the famous Kenyan singer, Esther Akoth, aka Akothee, 41. She divorced her Swiss husband of two months, Denis Schweizer, aka Mister Omosh in June 2023. Now, Akothee has opened up about the reason for this divorce.

Esther Akoth (Akothee) reveals the reason of her divorce

The famous Kenyan singer cum entrepreneur, Esther Akoth, aka Akothee is 41 now. She divorced her Swiss husband, Denis Schweizer, aka Mister Omosh in June last year. She had not spoken about it in public until now.

Recently, Akothee gave an interview to Radio Jambo’s Gidi na Ghost Asubuhi show. In this interview, she spoke at length about the reason that led her to decide to divorce her husband. She said:

“I can’t say he was a joker, but what I came to discover later was that there were things I couldn’t sit with because he hid a lot from me. Hiding things from me is what hurt me, and I said If you can hide things from me at this time, how many times will you hide things from me later? How will I live with you? How can I trust you?”

The singer added:

“What made me break up with him is that he didn’t tell me his inner truth that he had health challenges; the fact that he had these mental challenges and hid them from me hurt me—I wouldn’t say he’s insane, but he had mental challenges. He was so bipolar. When he told me, I asked him why he didn’t tell me before we got married and before I embarrassed myself in front of people.”

The relationship timeline of the couple

The wealthy musician met Denis during the lowtime of her life. She had said in October 2023:

“Denis Schweizer came into my life when I was going through so much. We came from far and he gave me what I needed when I needed him, he came in when we had big fights with my family and I was written off and nobody was talking to me. I needed a shoulder to lean on and by the time he said, ‘will you… I responded with a quick ‘Marry me, yes. I enjoyed everything with him including living with him. All the flight tickets he bought for me, I really do appreciate but then the relationship was not meant to be,”

They wed in April 2023. It was a lavish wedding. Denis had worn a Pakistani dress code for the occasion. Akothee had selected that attire for him because she wanted him to be unique.

However, she had already ended the relationship in her mind in June 2023. Yet, in July she went on a honeymoon with him but dumped him after that.

Akothee’s past relationships and children

Akothee had eloped at her age of 14 with a boy (Jared Okello) from the neighboring school. She delivered her first baby, a daughter at age of 14. Her second baby, a daughter arrived at her age of 15. But the child died due to lack of money for her health issues. At age 16, Akothee had another baby. And her fourth delivery was in 2000.

Akothee’s husband dumped her for another woman in 2006. She then began a relationship with a Swiss diplomat. Her fifth baby was born with him. She used to live with the diplomat in Zurich, Switzerland. When she realized that the man was only interested in the baby and not keen on marrying her, she left him and returned to Kenya.

Akothee feels that men should not joke with women in her 40s:

“You know, in the 40s, we women don’t know jokes; we don’t like jokes. So, if you’re dating a woman in her 40s, know it’s time for injury; don’t joke with us about marriage. Even if you want to say I want water, we know you want to marry us. We believe in you,”
