Bryar was originally from Chicago, Illinois, and studied sound engineering at the University of Florida.

He joined My Chemical Romance in 2004 after meeting the band while working as a sound engineer for a supporting act on their tour.

Reflecting on Bob Bryar’s legacy

Bob Bryar was the drummer for My Chemical Romance from 2004 to 2010. He joined the band after the release of the band’s 2004 album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, where he replaced Matt Pelissier.

The band was originally formed in 2001 by Pelissier and Gerard Way in New Jersey.

During his six years with the band, Bryar played a crucial role in their success, contributing to their famous 2006 album The Black Parade.

In 2007, he experienced wrist problems that led to the cancellation of a My Chemical Romance concert.

Bryar explained on Myspace that he had been seeking medical help for his wrist pain but had developed a lump that caused him to lose control and feel in his fingers during performances.

Bryar then left My Chemical Romance in 2010, the same year the band released their album “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.”

He was the band’s longest-serving drummer. At the time, guitarist Frank Iero described Bryar’s departure as a “painful decision” that “was not taken lightly.”

He expressed well wishes for Bryar’s future adding,

“We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and expect you all to do the same.”

After leaving the band, Bryar transitioned to a career in real estate and announced in 2021 that he was “permanently closing the book on my drumming days.”

Before joining My Chemical Romance, he was a sound engineer and tour manager.

In a 2016 interview, he reflected on leaving a good touring job to join the band, stating he recognized My Chemical Romance’s potential early on and wanted to contribute to their evolution.
