Jang Yoon-ju reveals her disease

Jang Yoon-ju, 43 is a supermodel from Seoul, South Korea. She is beautiful and talented. But did you know that she has a health condition and has been on medicines for it for the past 15 years? Jang talked about her disease recently during the premiere of her movie Citizen Of A Kind. This was on 11 January 2024 and she told the reporters:

“To be honest, I have hypothyroidism, so I am a woman without hormones. I have been taking medicine for the illness for 15 years. Doctors tell me all the time that I shouldn’t be exerting my energy on TV and in movies.”

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland situated in front of the neck region is unable to produce adequate thyroid hormones. Due to this, the patient may suffer from cold intolerance, swelling of the body, lethargy, poor concentration, low heartbeats, constipation, and lack of interest. It might affect fertility and libido too.

Therapy is replacement of thyroid hormones orally. The disease is treatable but is incurable. Medicines have to be taken lifelong. Also, the blood hormones need to be monitored regularly and the medicine dose adjusted accordingly.

Jang’s role in the film

During this screening, Jang also gave her fans an insight into her role in the film. She explained how she prepared herself for this role:

“I thought long and hard about how I wanted to act out Sook Ja’s character. She is very straightforward, and I worked hard so that when I do appear in the movie, it is refreshing for audiences.”

Citizen Of A Kind is the story of a housewife Sook-ja who falls prey to a voice-phishing scam. Her friends help her in tracking down the scammer responsible for it.

Jang is not only an actress. She started as a model in 1997 at the age of 17 and has walked the ramp for several well-known brands. Moreover, she has been featured on the cover of several glossy magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar. Her acting in Veteran and Three Sisters gathered rave reviews.

Jang is also a singer and songwriter and has two albums to her credit. Additionally, she hosts several TV shows.

Is Jang married?

Jang is a married woman. Her husband is Jung Seung-min, a fashion businessman and four years younger than her. The two dated for five months before he proposed to her and she said yes. They wed in 2015 on 29 May at the Somang Presbyterian Church in Sinsa-dong, Seoul. It was an intimate affair with family, select acquaintances, and close friends as guests.

Both share similar interests and are happy together. Jang had said about her partner:

“He is hard-working and gentle. He is a good person,”

In January 2016, Jang gave birth to a cute baby girl whom they named Lisa.
