Who is Jeongyeon?

Jeongyeon is a South Korean singer, dancer, and model with millions of fans on social media. She is best known as the main vocalist of the girl group ‘Twice” founded by JYP Entertainment.

Twice: Feel Special (2019), Twice: Perfect World (2021), and Twice: Fancy (2019) are among her Music Videos. She was most recently seen in Twice: Hare Hare and Twice: Set Me Free.

Yoo Kyung-wan, also known as Jeongyeon, was born in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea on November 1, 1996. Her age is 26.

However, after being harassed as a youngster for having a name that sounded like a boy’s name, she officially changed her name to Jeong-Yeon when she was in third grade. She is of Korean nationality and Asian ancestry.

Gong Seung-yeon (actress) and Seo Yeon (office worker) are her two older sisters. Similarly, her father, Yoo Chang-Joon, was a chef who worked for former South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung. Her mother also works at her maternal aunt’s Japanese restaurant.

Jeongyeon also began taking aerobics lessons at a young age and acquired an early interest in singing and dancing. She went to Apgujeong High School as well. Aside from that, little information is available regarding her educational background.

When she was younger, Jeongyeon failed an audition for JYP Entertainment. After clearing JYP Entertainment’s 6th Open Audition in 2010, she became a trainee. As a result, she got admitted to both JYP and SM on the same day, but she selected JYP. Nonetheless, she was trained for 5 years before her debut with ‘Twice’.

From 2013 until early 2015, it was believed that she will join a new JYP girl group with Twice members Nayeon, Sana, and Jihyo. However, the project was canceled, and they did not make their debut. And, she got her debut in 2015 as a competitor on the reality female group survival program Sixteen and was finally picked as a member of ‘Twice’.

‘Twice’ officially presented their first extended play ‘The Story Begins’ in October 2015. Similarly, the lead track “Like Ooh-Ahh” was the first K-pop hit to exceed 100 million views on YouTube. However, JYP Entertainment revealed that Jeongyeon will take a second break in the same year owing to a panic and anxiety illness and that she would resume her activities in February 2022, commencing with the North American leg of Twice 4th World Tour “III.”
