After actress Lindiwe Chibi was shot by her boyfriend Dan Mokoena in 2004, Mbau took over the part of Doobsie on Muvhango.

She was fired from the post a year later, allegedly for partying too much and appearing in Sunday tabloids.

Mbau was cast as Mbali in the SABC 1 blockbuster drama series Mzansi in its second season in 2006.

The show was not renewed for a third season by SABC 1.

Mbau went on to play Zee in the SABC 1 mini-series After 9 in 2007.
