The sci-fi movie ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ has premiered in Los Angeles on 28th June 2017 and hit the theaters on 7th July 2017. The story is about a young 15-year-old Spider-Man who is out to save his City. The role has been well played by 20-year-old Tom Holland.

The film has been well-received by the audience. The critics have also given the film a positive review. Tom Holland’s performance has especially been applauded. Michael Keaton’s acting in the role of the villain, Vulture is stellar. He has provided his own brand of wickedness to the role. The other cast members have also put in their full efforts for the movie.

The music score, the light tone, and action sequences are splendid and have been highly praised. It has been felt that the storyline is fantastic. It differs from the previous Spider-Man movies not only in the age of the main character but also in the innocence that is displayed by the main character. This Spider-Man seems like an ordinary person who is still discovering his own self. He stumbles and then gets up to again redo and retry the feat. His normal life and activities can also be seen.

Owen Gleiberman of ‘Variety’ critic feels that the biracial romance shown in the movie is in the right direction. The movie has received 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. David Edelstein of Vulture has called it the ‘breeziest, most convivial Marvel movie in ages’. Sandy Schaefer from Screen Rant has praised this film for being ‘both a (very) funny high school comedy/drama and strong standalone superhero movie set in the MCU’.

Tom Holland has done justice to his role of a pubescent teen. Wearing hoodies and sneakers and taking on a high-pitched American accent, this English actor has put wonders into his character. The story and cast are believed to resonate with the teens who account for about 13% of moviegoers in 2017.

Canadian Nour-Harrak, a Spider-Man superfan who had a Spidey fan podcast has endorsed Tom Holland as the ‘perfect high-school Peter Parker’. Being the youngest Spider-Man, more young fans relate to Tom Holland and can connect with him well compared to the near 30 age actors who played the role earlier. Tom Holland’s portrayal is more realistic and he already has garnered a wide and strong fanbase. Vox has shared that Tom Holland is the ‘best Spider-Man ever’.

This movie has definitely made him a great movie star. Tom had managed well to instill a youthful, restless spirit, vulnerability and awkwardness into his role which was the demand of the script. Tom Holland has come as a likable and adorable teen actor. The New York Times Manohla Dargis said:

“Mr. Holland looks and sounds more like a teen than the actors who’ve previously suited up for this series, and he has fine support from a cast that includes Jacob Batalon as Peter’s best friend. Other good company includes Donald Glover, as a wrong-time, wrong-place criminal, and Martin Starr, who plays his teacher role with perfect deadpan timing.”

The Storyline

The story revolves around Peter Parker who is trying to discover his own spider-like abilities after being bitten by a genetically-modified spider. He fights against Adrian Toomes who tries to use the alien Chitauri technology to create advanced weapons and destroy the City. Peter Parker is drafted into ‘The Avengers’ but is told by Stark that he is not yet prepared to be a full Avenger. He quits his school’s decathlon team to focus on ‘the stark internship’. His friend Ned who resides with him at his Queens apartment comes to know about his secret identity.

Peter tries to confront Adrian Toomes but is unable to overcome him. He once saves his friends when they get trapped in an elevator in the Washington Monument which Toomes tries to blow up the Monument with his Chitauri grenade. He finds out Toomes’ whereabouts and tries to catch him, but in vain. His boss Stark is angry with Peter and scolds him for his failure and recklessness. Peter Parker then returns to his high school life and requests his crush Liz to accompany him to the homecoming dance.

He discovers that Liz is Toomes’ daughter. He comes to know about Toomes’ new destructive plan and uses his homemade Spider-Man suit to go after Toomes and confront him. Toomes uses his technology to destroy the building’s support beams and leaves Peter to die. Peter Parker manages to escape and prevents Toomes from causing more destruction. He hands over Toomes to the New York Police Department. Peter Parker realizes his own powers and declines to join the Avengers.

Made with a budget of $ 175 million, the movie has been directed by Jon Watts and is 133 minutes long. The film stars include Tom Holland in the lead role of Peter Parker, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Tyne Daly, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr. The worldwide distributors are Sony Pictures Releasing.
