Connection With Barack Obama
Many people thought that Lolo Soetoro had adopted Barack Obama since he was registered at the Santo Fransiskus Assisi School in Jakarta under the name Barry Soetoro, an Indonesian citizen.
Conservatives used this information when Obama announced his intention to run for president in 2007 and questioned whether he had formally reverted to his original citizenship.
Obama spent four years of his early childhood living halfway across the world in a Muslim Indonesian household, according to reports that began to surface during his presidential campaign.
After being questioned about his religious views, his campaign advisers explicitly declared that he “was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian,” despite the fact that the majority of his stepfather’s relatives were devoted Muslims.
Obama stated in his second book, “The Audacity of Hope,” published in 2006, that he did not grow up in a religious home and did not acquire religious beliefs until he was an adult.
According to former friends and neighbours, Lolo Soetoro was “more of a free spirit than a devout Muslim,” according to a 2007 Chicago Tribune article.

More about

Given that the majority of his stepfather’s family was devoted to Islam, conservatives scrutinized Obama, who had grown up for four years in Indonesia. They claimed that Obama had been a practicing Muslim.
Claiming that he was adopted by Soetoro and held Indonesian citizenship, the allegation was supported by his registration records at the Santo Fransiskus Assisi School in Jakarta, where he was identified as Barry Soetoro.
Although these accusations remain unsubstantiated, critics attempted to cast doubt on his suitability to seek the office. Obama had previously noted how much of an influence Soetoro had had on him in his early years in his memoir, “Dreams from My Father.”
His stepfather taught him boxing as a self-defense technique against the “dangerous world” in addition to playing chess and tennis with him. He was kind, calm, and easygoing with others.

Barack Obama, at three years old, now had a stepfather after his marriage to Dunham. Later, on August 15, 1970, the couple gave birth to a daughter, Maya Kasandra Soetoro.
After a year of marriage, he went back to work in Indonesia, leaving Dunham and Obama to reside at Dunham’s parents’ Honolulu home so that Dunham could finish her education. Following her 1967 bachelor’s degree in anthropology, Dunham relocated to Jakarta to live with Soetoro and her six-year-old son.
