Brave and Bold Princess
Princess Mako recently announced that she will leave royal status to marry her university classmate, Kei Komura.
Kei is not from a royal family or near that, he is just a common man. He is an ordinary man who won the heart of an extraordinary girl and is going to marry her as well.
As per Japanese Imperial law,
“Japanese law female imperial family members forfeit their status upon marriage to a commoner, whereas male members do not.”
Princess says,
“I was aware since my childhood that I’ll leave a royal status once I marry.”

Their budding romance
In 2012, Princess Maku and Kei Komuro met for the first time in a restaurant. They were studying at the same University in Tokyo, International Christian University. She fell in love with Kei’s smile.
She said,
“I was first attracted to his bright smiles that seemed like the sun.”
Likewise, what Kei has said about the Princess is that she is someone who has been quietly watching over him like the moon and says he wants to
“build a relaxed and peaceful household.”
The Proposal
So, in December 2013, after the dinner, Mr. Komuro decided to propose to Princess Mako. After he proposed to her, she then introduced Kei to her parents making them aware that she wanted him to be her life partner.
Acceptance
The royal parents, Prince Akishino and Prince Akishino, and the royal grandparents, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko were very keen on Mr. Komuro and accepted their decision of being together in the future.
Engagement Date
When asked about the engagement plans and date, Kei said,
“Now is not the time for me to comment, but I want to speak at the right time.”
However, the news reports that the couple soon will be getting engaged in May 2018.
Princess Maku’s aunt was the first lady to marry a commoner
This is not happening for the first time that a princess is marrying a commoner. The former Princess Sayako, who is the aunt of Princess Maku also married a commoner.
Princess Sayako is also the only daughter of Emperor Akihito. She was the first Princess who married a commoner from the royal family.
Princess Sayako’s marriage event was a low-profile event. After the marriage, the former princess learned many things that a commoner does and did the same. She moved to a one-bedroom flat, learned how to drive, shop in a supermarket, and buy furniture.
