Judy Farrell, who was famous for portraying Nurse Able in the hit TV show, ‘M*A*S*H’ has passed away. The actress passed away in a hospital on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the age of 84.

According to TMZ who spoke to her son, Michael, she passed away in a hospital on Sunday after suffering a stroke nine days earlier.

The same report also mentioned that while she was in the hospital, she was consciously alert and able to hold the hands of her loved ones, but due to the stroke, she couldn’t speak.

Two years after divorcing her first husband, Mike Farrell in 1983, the actress married Joe Bratcher a couple of years later. She is survived by her husband and her two children, Michael and Erin.

M*A*S*H co-stars paid their tributes to the actress

Her co-star Loretta Swit paid tribute through Entertainment Weekly, 

“Judy was a most beautiful woman — inside and out. We grew up together. She was family. This has been a painful loss, but we will always have the beauty of her memory. Rest in peace, Nurse Able.”

Similarly, her ex-husband and co-star Mike Farrell also paid his tribute. In a statement, he said:

“Judy is a beautiful woman, a talented actress and a wonderful writer. A jock, a rabid basketball, baseball and football fan, she had a great sense of humor that drew people to her, and laughter was the background music whenever she was nearby. She was loved by so many. She will be deeply loved by all of us, forever.”

He added:

“She was taken to a nearby hospital and all six of us have chosen times to be with her for the week she was there, doing what we could to support her as she seemed to stabilize. We were encouraged that she was to be moved to a rehab facility last Sunday, but she suddenly passed early that morning.”

Short Bio of Judy Farrell

Judy Farrell was an American actress best known for her role as Nurse Able on the TV series M*A*S*H. She made appearances in the show from 1975 to 1983, and her character was known for being sweet and innocent.

In 1963, she married Mike Farrell, with whom she had two children, Erin and Michael. During the 1960s, the couple performed together at the Laguna Playhouse. However, they divorced in the early 1980s and she remarried two years later.

Interestingly, their marriage was taken into an episode of M*A*S*H. In the episode titled ‘The Colonel’s Horse’, Mike’s character B.J. Hunnicutt mentioned that his on-screen wife Peg (played by Catherine Bergstrom in two onscreen appearances) was from Judy’s hometown of Quapaw.

He also mentioned her father’s name as Floyd Hayden. Furthermore, his on-screen daughter’s name was also Erin, which is the name of their real-life daughter.

Judy also made appearances in a few other TV shows and movies throughout her career, including The Love Boat, Family Ties, and The Cannonball Run.

After retiring from acting in the 1990s, she became a real estate agent in California.
