Who are Matthew Perry’s family members?

Matthew Perry died at his Los Angeles home on October 28. The beloved Friends star is survived by his parents and five half-siblings.

Perry, who never married or had kids of his own, hailed from a large Canadian-American family.

Matthew was the oldest of six kids. His mom, Suzanne welcomed four other kids with her second husband, Keith Morrison, and his father, John Bennett Perry, welcomed one daughter with his second wife.

Suzanne Perry

Matthew’s mom, Suzanne is a prolific communications professional. She ended her relationship with Matthew’s dad just before his first birthday.

The former journalist served as press secretary to Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau before turning her focus to political consulting and fundraising.

While she was busy in the office, Matthew attended school with Pierre’s son, Justin Trudeau, who is the current Prime Minister of Canada.

The leader also shared a tribute to his ex-classmate after his death, tweeting,

“Matthew Perry’s passing is shocking and saddening. I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them.”

Suzanne wed her second husband Morrison in 1981.

John Bennett Perry

What many don’t know is that like Matthew, his father, John also was an actor.

The ’70s TV star first became known for his role as Sheriff Floyd Gilmore on Falcon Crest.

John Bennett also starred alongside his son in the 1997 flick, Fool Rush In where he played Matthew’s onscreen father. He also had a cameo in Friends.

John’s most infamous role was a decades-long stint as a sailor in the commercials for Old Spice through the ’70s and ’80s.

After his split from Suzanne, the actor remarried his wife Debbie Boyle in 1981.

Keith Morrison

Matthew’s stepfather, Keith has also been in the media for very long. He has worked for the NBC crime program Dateline since 1985.

The reporter has known Matthew since he was 10. He went on to welcome four other kids with Suzanne. He has always been very proud of his stepson.

In 2020, Morrison told People,

“He’s one of those people who always is the center of the room for a reason and it was so as a kid,”
“He’s an intense, talented, focused character. He’s very bright. That was always the case as he was growing up,”
“Matthew was the guy.”

Keith was also there for Matthew when he was hospitalized in 2018 after his colon burst after years of opioid use.

He told the magazine,

“We were able to be with him a lot of the time through that, which was I think good for everybody,”

Morrison also has a son named Michael from his first marriage.
