May Calamawy is an Egyptian-Palestinian actress. She is best known for portraying the role of Dena Hassan in an American comedy-drama television series Ramy.

Similarly, she is also known for her roles in The Long Road Home, Marvel Studios: Assembled, and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.

She is Egyptian-Palestinian by nationality but her ethnicity is unknown.

Similarly, she was born to an Egyptian father and a Palestinian-Jordanian mother. Her father is a banker. She has not disclosed their names.

As per her academic, she completed high school in Bahrain. After that she moved to  Boston, Massachusetts, to study industrial design at the age of 17 years. After that, she lived in Dubai for around five years and then moved back to the United States to pursue an acting career.

May Calamawy began her career working in short films. After completing her college, she took part in the New York Arab American Comedy Festival.

She divided her time between Dubai and Abu Dhabi from 2009 to 2014 to act in shorts and a TV pilot. 

Moreover, she had her first major role in Tobe Hooper’s 2013 film Djinn which was the first horror film to be produced in the United Arab Emirates.

Later, she portrayed the recurring role of Faiza in the 2017 American drama miniseries The Long Road Home which was created by Mikko Alanne. In the following year, she made her guest appearance in the CBS crime drama television series FBI.

Furthermore, she shared the screen with Ed Helms and Patti Harrison in the 2021 comedy film Together Together. Subsequently, she made her appearance as  Layla El-Faouly in the Disney+ miniseries Moon Knight, which was aired on March 30, 2022.

May Calamawy also voiced for the  Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur as a guest star. Later, she joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 in May 2023.
