Who is Otávio?

Otávio aka Otávio Edmilson da Silva Monteiro is a well-known Professional Portuguese football player. Currently, he plays for the Primeira Liga club, Porto, and the Portugal national team as an attacking midfielder.

He finished his training at International as he enrolled there at the age of 15. After two years, he played with Santos as a substitute, in the second half which ended with a home tie of 0-0.

Otávio transferred to the FC Porto as a free agent after his federative rights were ceded by Internacional. He signed a five-year deal with a €50 million buyout clause. Getting assigned to the reserve team initially, and he competed in the Segunda Liga.

Along with fellow players, Ivo Rodrigues and Leocísio Sami, Vitoria de Guimaraes lent him in the Primeira Lia, on the last day of 2015 January. During his debut game against, Belenses they lost by 0-1 after playing for 30 minutes. Shortly after, he scored his first brace against Academica de Coimbra on the last day of the match.

As, the deal was extended for the whole 2015-2016 season, on 12 August 2016, he played the match against Rio Ave. At the end of his second season, he won the Portuguese League, as he scored two embraces within his total 15 appearances.

Then, he made 48 appearances with two goals from the 2019-20 campaign and was named in the league’s Best XI.

International Career

Brazilian football manager, Alexandre Gallo, called him into the Brazil under-20 side after his Internacional debut.

In March 2021, he became a permanent citizen of Portugal. He was selected to the Portugal national team by the coach, Fernando Santos for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers during the match against the Republic of Ireland, and Azerbaijan including a friendly match with Qatar.

Otávio socred his first brace with the 3-1 win at the Ngayerdei Stadion in Debrecen, Hungary. Following that, he was eligible for Portugal’s preliminary 550-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
