Prince Edward and Sophie celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary
This year on 19th June was the silver wedding anniversary of Prince Edward and his beautiful wife of 25 years, Sophie. The couple celebrated it with pomp and joy. And, on this occasion, they also released two royal portraits of them together.
In the first photo, the Duke of Edinburgh, Edward is embracing his wife Sophie from behind. Moreover, she has lovingly placed her hands on his hands.
In the second pic, the two were seated on the steps of their home against the backdrop of cute and small red and white flowers. They were looking lovingly into each other’s eyes.
Photographer Chris Jelf clicked the snaps that were taken at their Bagshot Park home in Surrey.
The couple uploaded the two portraits on their family’s official social media account and captioned the post:
“We are so grateful for the many kind and lovely messages we have received on our silver wedding anniversary.”
“Wishing everyone who is celebrating their own anniversaries a special day too-Edward & Sophie.”
The relationship of the couple
Sophie was working in the capacity of a public relations officer when in the early 1990s, she bumped into and met the Prince at a tennis event. The two started dating.
Later, in January 1999, Edward proposed to Sophie and she accepted his marriage proposal. The engagement ring was a beautiful Asprey and Garrard white gold ring. It had a huge diamond in the center that was of 2-carat and on both the sides were two small diamonds in the shape of a heart. It was worth £1,05000.
Before marrying Sophie, Edward had shared:
“We manage to have a good laugh about things most of the time, and we happen to love each other, which is the most important thing of all.”
The wedding day
The couple exchanged wedding vows on 19 June 1999. It was at St George’s Chapel in Windsor castle. But there was no military involvement or any state ceremonies. However, it was aired on television and around 200 million people watched it, the official figures say.
Sophie’s bridal gown was made of silk organza that had intricate decoration with 3,25,000 crystals and pearls. Samantha Keswick designed it and Sophie also wore an expensive tiara from the late Queen Elizabeth’s rich collection of jewelry. She kept minimum makeup and made a simple hairstyle.
The pair has two children together: daughter, Lady Louise Windsor (date of birth 8 November 2003) and son, James, Earl of Wessex (date of birth 17 December 2007).
Three months back, Edward turned 60. Sophie paid tribute and called him the best father and loving husband. She added that he remains her best friend too.
