Anthony Jerome Webb, also known as Spud Webb, was born on July 13, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. Likewise, he is 58 years old. He was born to his father, David Webb, and mother, Katie Webb.

The entire family of eight resided in a little two-bedroom house in Dallas. To alleviate his family’s situation, he began playing basketball and enjoyed it.
In seventh grade, he tried to join the school basketball team. However, he was denied the opportunity to play because he was too short.
Later, he improved his skills and enrolled in Wilmer-Hutchins High School.
He had to deal with the same problem at school.
Spud Webb: Professional life, Career
Spud was having difficulty finding a college that was interested in him, despite his excellent results. As a result, the cause was once again his height.
He did, however, join the Midland College basketball team, the ‘Chaparrals.’ In 1982, he guided his squad to the junior college national championship. He scored a career-high 36 points against Miami-Dade.
His performance in the competition provided him with the biggest breakthrough he had been looking for.
Sports Illustrated ran an article on him, and he made national headlines. In 1983, the National Junior College Athletic Association recognized him a ‘NJCAA-All American’.
Later, he was discovered by Tom Abatemarco, the assistant coach at North Carolina State University. Through him, he met Jim Valvano. Jim is the head coach for the university basketball squad. Fortunately, Jim recognized his talent and awarded him a scholarship to university.
In 1985, his selection was not expected during the ‘NBA Draft,’ as many scouts assumed. As a result, he was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 1985 NBA Draft against all odds.

However, he made his professional debut with the Atlanta Hawks during the 1985-1986 season. Therefore, his performance was neither too awful nor too good throughout his first few years with Atlanta.
In his first season, he averaged 7.8 points per game across 79 games. Moving forward, he struggled to deliver, with his average PPG dropping to 6.8 and 6.0 over the next two years. He had a poor season in 1988-1989, scoring only 3.9 points per game.
Later, he made a tremendous recovery, averaging 9.2 and 13.4 points, respectively. In 1991, the ‘Hawks’ released him. Furthermore, he was signed by the ‘Sacramento Kings’ the same year. His confidence grew, and he went on to play for the Kings for the next three seasons. Throughout the seasons, he averaged 14.5, 12.7, and 11.6 points per game.
Similarly, he joined the Atlanta Hawks in 1995 and performed below average. After the 1998 season, he announced his retirement. He eventually entered the ‘NBA Slam Dunk Contest’ in 1986.
As a result, Spud Webb became the shortest player in history to enter the competition. Furthermore, his participation startled the local media outlets. Hopefully, he created waves after defeating much taller opponents.
