The news outlet has reviewed the court documents of the couple divorce filing. But there has been no joint statement on it from either Ted or Sutton. There has been no statement of denial of it as well. Both have preferred to stay silent on this issue and keep their personal life private. The reason for this divorce is not clear yet.

The relationship timeline of the couple

Sutton who hails from Statesboro, Georgia began dating Ted Griffin after her marriage to her first husband, Christian Borle collapsed in 2009. The exact date her relationship with Ted began is not known. However, on 19 September 2013, Sutton had confirmed that she is engaged to Ted since August 2013.

More than a year later, on 25 October 2014, the couple exchanged wedding vows in Santa Barbara, CA. The Tony award winning Broadway star, Sutton was skeptical about having children. She had written in an article for People:

I was always very career-driven, and I had such a tricky relationship growing up with my own mom … It was never clear cut for me. I married in my 30s; it didn’t last, but one thing it did give me was this little inkling that I wanted to maybe have a family,”

She added:

When I met my husband [Ted], it was the first time that I finally went, ‘Oh, I get it. I understand why people have families,’

Sutton had fertility issues. Hence, the couple opted to adopt a baby girl who was born on 7 March 2017. They named her Emily.

Their marital life seemed to be doing great. Ted had taken Sutton to Turks and Caicos Islands for her 40th birthday. She used to  adore and praise him and had said to Broadway.com in April 2015:

“He’s like, the smartest guy I’ve ever known. He’s incredibly smart.”

The couple used to watch movies together and also go to the theater.

Sutton during the COVID pandemic and lockdown

The family had spent the COVID pandemic and lockdown together. They were outside New York City and had enjoyed the time. She told People in October 2020:

“It was the the first time that we’ve all been together for this amount of concentrated time without one of us traveling or having to leave for work every day.”

Sutton added:

Especially breakfast and dinner,”

“We’re all sitting at the table and now my daughter will ask everyone, ‘How was your day?’ We all like to sit down and talk and we’ve made it a really important part of our day that we come together as a family.”
