Marc Mallory and Gretchen Whitmer’s Marriage
In 2011, the same year that Whitmer was elected Senate Democratic Leader, Dr. Mallory wed a politician. About six miles from the state capital of Michigan, the couple shares a home.
Whitmer and Gary Shrewsbury divorced after their previous marriage. When his wife won the 2018 Michigan gubernatorial race by over 10 points, Dr. Mallory became the state’s first gentleman.
The couple enjoys a family of five children even though they are not parents of any biological children together. The couple has children from their previous marriages. Whitmer has two daughters—Sydney and Sherry Shrewsbury—from her first marriage.

Mallory has retired early from dentistry due to ‘threats’
Gretchen Whitmer claims that due to threats she faced while working during the COVID-19 outbreak, her husband left his dentistry business roughly eight years sooner than anticipated, severely hampering his retirement plans.
Her husband, the First Gentleman Dr. Marc Mallory had to retire early because he “didn’t have all the state police with him all the time and he was worried about his patients and his staff.” She revealed this in an interview with Democratic strategist David Axelrod, on his podcast, “The Axe Files.”

In the 2018 Michigan gubernatorial election, Whitmer defeated Republican Bill Schuette for the position of governor. Whitmer has concentrated on infrastructure and healthcare as governor. She was chosen to deliver the Democratic rebuttal to then-President Donald Trump’s 2020 State of the Union Address in February of that year.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation stopped a paramilitary group’s plan to kidnap Whitmer on October 8, 2020. Whitmer has been one of the vice chairs of the Democratic National Committee since January 2021.
