Yara Shahidi can add Harvard Alumna to her resume

Yara Shahidi proudly shared pictures of her graduation day from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Thursday.

The Grown-ish actress’s father Afshin shared a selfie with his daughter to mark the happy occasion.

In the picture, the father-daughter duo can be seen smiling as the graduate is wearing a black cap and gown with a stole draped over her shoulders.

Her father captioned the picture:

“Beautifully surreal moment seeing our delicate petal in full bloom,”

Her proud mom also shared pictures of her daughter’s graduation holding flowers in her hand.

Shahidi started her education at Harvard in 2017 but she chose to take a gap year before starting her studies.

Interestingly, former First Lady, Michelle Obama wrote her a college recommendation letter.

The 22-year-old studied at the uni’s social studies and African American departments.

Upon her graduation, she shared her excitement by saying:

“It’s surreal to have finally hit this major milestone,” she told the magazine. “I’ve known I wanted to go to college since I was four. By 17, I knew exactly what I wanted to study, so to see that come to fruition is a goal fulfilled.”

To get her degree, Yara had to complete a 136-page thesis paper called “I Am a Man: The Emancipation of Humanness from Western Hegemony Through the Lens of Sylvia Wynter.”

The thesis represents the Jamaican writer’s work and bigger questions as well.

What does Yara Shahidi plan to do in the future?

The Harvard grad hopes to continue acting and producing more movies in the future. She is excited to see what the future holds for her.

On her career, she said:

For the majority of my career, I’ve always had an essay or assignment due. This feels like a new chapter where I can invest time into more of what I love to do, also adding she’s ready to create “opportunities to exercise what I’ve learned — and to be flexible to learn so much more.”
