Guitar World magazine named him one of the “fastest guitarists in history” and one of the “greatest guitarists of all time.”

Skolnick moved on to pursue numerous musical projects, including briefly replacing Criss Oliva in Savatage’s album Handful of Rain and founding his jazz group. Then he joined the next band Savatage, where he recorded Handful of Rain and home video release Japan Live ’94.

Alex Skolnick made use of a variety of instruments, including those with steel strings, nylon strings, acoustic strings, and electric strings. Aside from two pieces composed by Skolnick-Joubran and Skolnick-Hernandez, all compositions were by him. Traditional melodies from Mali and China were performed for the first time as guitar-kora and guitar-pipa duos, respectively.

Moreover, he performed live at the Feature Inc. Gallery in New York as part of a musical interpretation initiative for the works of Douglas Melini, a visual artist.
