A great day is arriving soon. On 11 August 2023, it will be 50 years since hip-hop started. On 11 August 1973, it all started with a party in South Bronx. It was to mark the start of this music genre. But, now, it not only includes music but dance, fashion and culture is very much a part of it. This year, it will be celebrated at the the Essence Festival of Culture.

American rapper T.I. is elated. He will be part of these celebrations but has no plans yet. He told CNN:

“I suck at planning things,”

“I’m just a horrible arranger of dates and schedules.”

Whatever I end up doing would probably be decided definitively, probably about two to three weeks out,”

“But it will definitely be magnificent.”

T.I.’s performance

T.I. is confident. One thing is for sure and already scheduled. And that is T.I.’s participation in the the Essence Festival of Culture that will take place from 29 June to 3 July 2023 at New Orleans.

This special event is to make people experience everything that is Black. And the novel thing this year would be the evening concert that will have all hip-hop presentations.

T.I. is one of the top rappers from the South. His performance will be special and producer Jermaine Dupri who hails also from Atlanta, Georgia will curate it. T.I. expressed that he immediately said yes when he came to know that Jermaine will curate it.

Originally from North Carolina, Jermaine said:

I’m super excited to perform at this year’s Essence Festival and represent my city because when I first started, everybody called me country and told me we ain’t know nothing about hip-hop,”

“They deliberately left us out of so many conversations! So, I really appreciate Essence for allowing me to curate what will become one of the most memorable moments in the celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary.”

T.I. will do an ensemble which he is sure the crowd will like and enjoy.

T.I. and trap music

Rapper T.I. is one of the pioneers who started trap music and took it forward. Gucci Mane and Jeezy are other two rappers who also helped it flourish. It is a subgenre of hip-hop music and originated in the 1990s in the southern parts of America. T.I. revealed to CNN reporter that this year is also vital for trap music.

The rapper is co-founder of the Trap Music Museum in Atlanta. He is trying to have more events on trap music. He said:

“Whatever we feel that we aren’t getting from the hip hop celebration, I think we could make up for it with the trap music celebration,”
