Our successful Journalist Phil is a taken. He is married to his longtime girlfriend Chelsea Carter. Phil and Chelsea had been dating for years before they decided to take their relationship to the next level and tied the knot on December 10, 2011, in Washington, DC.

The duo has been working on the relationship since then and has been able to live a happy life. Although we don’t have much information about their marriage there has been news that the couple is expecting.

Now a general assignment correspondent, since January 2016 Mattingly joined CNN in December 2015 as a New York-based correspondent. There was a memo that CVP VP of U.S. newsgathering Terence Burke sent to the New York Bureau:

An award-winning journalist, Phil comes to us from Bloomberg where he served as a national political correspondent, covering the politics and policies behind the 2016 presidential campaigns. Throughout his career, he’s also served as Bloomberg’s White House correspondent, covered Congress, economics and finance and helped lead the coverage of the federal response to the financial crisis.
Phil will make a very strong addition to our seasoned team of reporters and we’re excited to welcome him aboard.

Previously, Phil worked at Bloomberg Television in Washington, where he served most recently as a national political correspondent, and before that, he was the network’s White House correspondent.

In that capacity, Phil covered all of the major presidential candidates and also reported on the domestic and foreign policy actions of the Obama administration.

He managed to secure the first interview with then-Attorney General Eric Holder in the wake of the Edward Snowden revelations and throughout his tenure of work landed a series of exclusive interviews with the top cabinet, administration, and congressional officials.

While covering the White House, Mattingly had reported on several elements of the administration’s foreign, economic, and legal policy and was a finalist for the Scripps Howard Distinguished Service to the First Amendment award for an investigation into the Obama administration’s crackdown on government whistle-blowers.

He also served as a print reporter with Bloomberg News in Washington. Phil’s has been recognized by the “Washington Post,” “Boston Globe,” “New York Times,” “New York Post” and the “Chicago Tribune.” Throughout his time at Bloomberg, he wrote regularly for Bloomberg “BusinessWeek” magazine.

Mattingly graduated from the Ohio State University in the year 2006, where he was a scholar varsity athlete. He received his Master’s Degree in journalism from Boston University in 2008.
