Brandon Mychal Smith and his professional life

Brandon Mychal Smith was born on 29 May 1989. He gained popularity with his role as Bug Wendal in Gridiron Gang. His other famous roles are that of Li’l Danny Dawkins in Phil of the Future, as Nico Harris in Sonny with a Chance, and also in So Random!

Additionally, he played Stubby in Starstruck, and has also acted in Let It Shine and One Big Happy. His best performance was in 2006 in The Ron Clark Story in which he portrayed the character of Tayshawn Mitchell. His 2014 role as Little Richard in James Brown’s biopic Get on Up also won him great critical acclaim.

Brandon is also a voice actor. In the Nickelodeon animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Brandon gave voice to the character of Michelangelo.

Brandon was born and grew up in Los Angeles, California. Though a lot has been spoken about his professional life, he is very secretive about his personal life. Brandon gave an interview to Girl.com in which he mentioned that he is very much like the character he played, Stubby. But he confessed that he has not sold 30 million records like Stubby. Brandon went on to explain the similarities:

“But my character, Stubby, is very similar to me, Brandon Smith, in the way we both like to get fly and get dressed up and put on cool clothes and scarves and rock really cool shades. We both like to perform, we are both natural entertainers. I, as well as Stubby, love to be with my friends and give them a realistic perspective about this whole Hollywood-life and entertainment-life because a lot of my buddies are entertainers, actors and models. I grew up in the entertainment world and our characters are really the same in that regard.”

Talking about being a celebrity, he added:

“We’re just regular people trying to peruse a career and trying to have a stable lifestyle whilst having fun. We all do hang out; Demi (Lovato) and I hang out, Joe (Jonas) and I hang out, Chelsea (Staub) and I hang out- we all just do regular stuff like everybody else; we go bowling, we go get pizza, we go to comedy shows, we just like to have a good time. Everybody hangs out, it is like a big family over here at the Disney Channel, it is really a blessing to be apart of the channel.”

Brandon was supposedly in a relationship with Jasmine Tookes from 2012 until 2016. But neither confirmed nor denied it. Jasmine was also said to be dating Tobias Sorensen around the same period. But later, she had a serious relationship with Juan David Borrero from 2016. They had an engagement in September 2020. Juan works as the director of the international markets department of Snap Inc. His father is doctor Alfredo Borrero Vega, the Vice President of Ecuador. They wed on 4 September 2021 at the Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco in Quito, Ecuador. On 23 February 2023, their daughter Mia Victoria was born.

Brandon is in a long-term relationship with Canadian actress, Maggie Castle. She is 40 now and has a sister Aimee who is also an actress. They hail from Montreal and grew up there. Maggie started her career in commercials before switching to acting.
