Burt Young has passed away. The veteran actor, who is best known and Oscar-nominated for his role as Rocky Balboa’s best friend Paulie, dies at the age of 83.

He died on October 8, 2023, in Los Angeles. His death was confirmed by his daughter Anne Morea Steingieser, however, she hasn’t revealed the cause of his death.

Young’s manager, Lynda Bensky also released a heartbreaking statement announcing his death while praising him,

“Burt was an actor of tremendous emotional range. He could make you cry and he could scare you to death, But the real pathos that I experienced was the poignancy of his soul. That’s where it came from.”

As soon as his death was confirmed many were quick to mourn the loss of the beloved actor. Fellow actor Sylvester Stallone shared a photo of them from the set of the Rocky movie while paying tribute to the beloved actor, writing,

“To my Dear Friend, BURT YOUNG You were an incredible man’s [sic] and artist, I an the world will miss you very much,”

Burt is survived by his daughter, grandchild, and brother Robert. He was a widower. His wife Gloria died in 1974.

What was Burt Young best known for?

Burt Young, whose full name was Gerald Tommaso DeLouise, was an American actor, author, and painter. He rose to prominence for his role ‘Paulie Pennino’ in the 1976 film, Rocky.

Further, he appeared in acclaimed films and television shows including “Chinatown,” “Once Upon a Time in America”, “The Sopranos”, and more. Burt taught his acting classes from the legendary teacher Lee Strasberg at the Actors Studio.

He was born to Josephine and Michael DeLouise on April 30, 1940, in Corona, Queens, New York. His father was a high school shop teacher.

Before pursuing his acting career, he worked as a carpet layer. He also served in the Marine Corps and fought as a professional boxer.

Young also owned a restaurant in the Bronx, New York.
