Byron Castillo aka Byron David Castillo Segura is a well-known Ecuadorian football player. He actively plays for the Ecuador national team as well as for the Liga MX club, León.

Starting a career with Norte América, he made his senior debut at Deportivo Azogues on loan. Then, he was loaned to Emelec in 2015.

He moved to Aucas in January 2016, and on 7 February, he made his Serie A debut. During the match against Mushuc Runa, he made his first goal in the category late in the month.

Byron Castillo then played for the Barcelona SC on 5 January 2017 and went on to feature more regularly from the 2018 season onwards, becoming a regular starter in 2020.

Castillo signed a new contract with the club until 2025 on 10 July 2021.

Shortly after, he signed a new contract with the Liga MX side, León.

International Career

Byron Castillo was called up to the Ecuador under-17 and played in both the 2015 South American U-17 Championship and the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Furthermore, manager Gustavo Alfaro called him to the Ecuador national team on 29 August 2021 for three 2022 FIFA Cup qualifying matches over, Uruguay, Chile, and Paraguay.

In the opening game against the host country Qatar, Ecuador won by 2 goals which were scored by the captain of Ecuador’s team, Enner Valencia. The first game was held at the Al Bayt Stadium, Qatar Sunday, 20 November 2022.

Despite the victory with Qatar, Ecuador lost by 1-2 against Senegal on 29 November 2022.
