Charlbi Dean died of a bacterial infection in August

Charlbi Dean passed away in August and the cause of her untimely passing has finally been made official. The actress was 32 at the time of her death. At the time, the cause of her death was not revealed.

New York City’s medical examiner revealed that Dean passed away because of a bacterial infection. The examiner also noted that the bacteria is called Capnocytophaga.

It normally affects people who come into contact with or have been bitten by a cat or dog.

The Black Lightning actress had her spleen removed after she and her former boyfriend Ashton Schnehage met with a car accident in 2009.

The crash was so horrible that Dean suffered a collapsed lung, broke her wrist, four ribs, and elbow, and damaged two vertebrae. Due to the absence of her spleen, the actress’ reaction to the bacteria grew more complicated.

It is unsure if the model’s infections grew due to an animal bite or lick as her full autopsy has not yet been made public.

A spokesperson said at the time,

The sepsis “was a complication from asplenia (the absence of a spleen) due to “remote blunt trauma to her torso,“

Charlbi passed away just months after her engagement

Days after she died, Charlbi’s brother Alex Jacobs revealed that the actress’s sudden death happened after she started experiencing minor symptoms. She then asked her fiance to rush her to an emergency room. But she died just hours later.

Jacobs told Rolling Stones:

“This happened literally within the span of a day: getting a headache, going to sleep, waking up her boyfriend and saying please take me to the hospital,”

The South African actress was engaged to Luke Volker at the time of her death. The model, 26, popped the question to his ladylove in April.

The stars shared the news of their engagement with fans on Instagram where the Spud star shared sweet snaps of the couple. She captioned them:

“40°44’12.9″N 73°58’49.1″W ?,”
“Location of our first kiss and the location where I said yes to my boy.”

Volker also shared a post where he called Dean the “love of [his] life” and “girl of [his] dreams.”

Volker has been shattered ever since his fiancee passed away. He has posted numerous touching tributes honoring the love of his life.

In September he wrote:

“I was the luckiest guy in the world to have spent my days with her,”
“I hope there’s a heaven up there.”

Dean’s posthumous movie with Woody Harrelson, Triangle of Sadness which was released in October earned her critical and public appraisal.
