Cher confirms the death of her mother Georgia Holt
Cher announced the demise of her 96-year-old mother Georgia Holt.
The singer, 76, took to Twitter to share the unfortunate news with her 4 million followers. The announcement led her followers to send her their heartfelt condolences.
She tweeted, ”Mom is gone,’‘ with a sad face emoji.
The sad news of Holt’s death comes just three months after the Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again star notified her fans that her dear mom had been hospitalized with severe pneumonia.
In September, the Believe singer wrote:
”Sorry I’ve Been Mia. Mom’s Been Sick Off & On. She Just Got Out Of Hosp. She Had Pneumonia,”
The legendary performer later added, “She’s Getting Better.”
Over the past few years, Cher said that she has been very careful not to contract COVID-19.
In 2020, while speaking to People magazine about Georgia’s health, the doting daughter said,
“We have a little bubble that we’ve had all this time,”
“We wear masks, and there’s not very many of us. It’s my sister, my brother-in-law, my mom, my assistant. And we stay far apart from each other.”
The Little Man singer added:
“I have to be careful too because I have asthma. … I have different health problems.”

Holt was a successful model and actress of her time
Holt, an actress, model, and singer by profession, was born in Arkansas in 1926. Her mother Lynda Inez Gulley was only 13 years old when she gave birth.
Holt got the opportunity to work in several films and TV shows like Watch the Birdie and I Love Lucy once she moved to Los Angeles.
She also loved singing and had even recorded an album named Honky Tonk Woman in the 80s but it was released only in 2013.
Cher, who was very fond of her mother’s achievements, has previously been vocal about the life lessons she learned from her.
She said in an interview in 2013,
“She never gave me and my sister advice because, truthfully, she knew we’d never take it,”
“Instead, we learned about life by listening to her talk about the things she did wrong and the things she did right.”
The Grammy-winning artist said:
“I did a couple of things like running away when I was 11. I hopped a train with my friends. I was just very adventurous – but never disrespectful. She wouldn’t have put up with that.”
Holt had some issues with her daughter’s first husband, Sonny Bono, in the beginning. Cher later revealed that her mom got over the problem.
The chart-topper concluded:
“She listened first before making a judgment, so I could always talk to her about my romances.”
