Who is Choi Young-jae?

Choi Young-jae is a South Korean professional singer, composer, producer, and dancer with millions of fans. He is well-recognized across the world as the lead singer of the South Korean boy band Got7 and he is managed by Sublime.

Choi Young-jae is most known for his roles in When My Love Blooms (2020), My Roommate Is a Gumiho (2021), and So I Married My Anti-Fan (2021). He just wrote two songs for his band, Errr Day and Best Friend. In August 2020, he registered as an organ donor.

Choi Young-jae better known by his stage name Youngjae is his parents’ youngest child. Youngjae, 26 years old, was born on September 17, 1996, in Mokpo, South Korea. He is of Korean nationality and Asian heritage.

Furthermore, he has an elder brother and an older sister whose names have not yet been revealed. He had always wanted to be a vocalist since he was a youngster. He and his older brother used to sing songs together. However, he has kept his personal life private and has not revealed his mother’s or father’s names or occupations.

Choi Young-jae enrolled in a practical music institution in his hometown of Mokpo to learn more professionally after later joining the military, working part-time to make ends meet.

Choi studied shipbuilding equipment at Mokpo Technical High School before transferring to Seoul’s Korean Arts High School in 2012, where he graduated in February 2015.

He was admitted into the Department of Theater and Film at Seokyeong University, then transferred to and graduated from International Cyber University. He is a student at Hanyang Cyber Graduate School as of 2021.

Choi Young-jae became a trainee when JYP Entertainment held a closed audition in the academy in 2013. He was admitted to the project group to become JYPE’s new boy band after one month of training in Seoul.

He debuted as the primary vocalist of the seven-member boy group Got7 with the single “Girls Girls Girls,” released in 2014, from the group’s first EP Got It? after a total of seven months of training.

Since 2016, he has started creating music and lyrics under the alias Ars, beginning with “Rewind” on Got7’s extended-release Flight Log: Departure. Choi collaborated with Sanjoy and Elliott Yamin on the song “Victim of Love” in 2017, and in 2018 he recorded “I’m All Ears” for the Life Insurance Social Philanthropy Foundation’s adolescent suicide prevention campaign.

In the spring of 2019, he participated in Jus2’s ‘Focus’ Premiere Showcase in Asia. He sang “At the Usual Time” and “Fall In Love” for the original soundtracks of the TV dramas Wok of Love and When My Love Blooms in 2018 and 2020, respectively.

In 2020, he founded Ars X Coco, a clothes store for people and dogs, in conjunction with Howlpot, a pet product design firm.
