It was an occasion of rejoicement for Cliona Hagan and her boyfriend Simon Sheerin! Simon went down on one knee and proposed to her in a fairytale way. And she said yes.

The country singer Cliona Hagan was not aware that her boyfriend Simon Sheerin was going to propose to her. He took her by surprise but she was joyous about it and said yes. Simon had arranged a fairytale type of engagement for her. It happened beside the Co. Westmeath lake.

Cliona narrated how the whole event unfolded. Simon is the drummer of her band. She and Simon went out for a walk with Simon. Cliona told Sunday World:

“We went down to our favourite lake, Lough Ree in Co Westmeath, where we always have a nice walk,”

“Then I saw this beautiful arch and flowers, and a red carpet and candles. “He had my favourite song playing, Shania Twain’s You’re Still The One, and he just got down on one knee and proposed.

“The two of us were crying and it was such a beautiful moment I could hardly even speak.”

More on the engagement of Cliona

The singer revealed that she was speechless but later got back her voice to thank Simon and say yes to his proposal. Simon gave her a stunning engagement ring. Talking about the engagement ring, Cliona said:

“It’s just so beautiful, I can’t stop looking at it,”

“It’s platinum, has a hexagon shape and there’s lots of diamonds. And it’s absolutely fabulous. It’s everything and more that I could have wished for.

“Simon chose it and he did so good. He has great taste and he’s just such a stylish person anyway, so picking a ring was no bother to him.”

She added:

“Simon is the most romantic person you’ll ever meet, I got a great guy with this one,” 

Cliona and her love for Simon

The country musician revealed that he had in the past tried to find out about her ring liking. She recalled:

“A couple of months back when we were passing shops we stopped to look in the window of a jeweller’s and he was asking me, ‘if we ever got married what ring would you like?’ I had never thought about it, but I saw a few rings that are similar to this ring and I pointed out which one I liked.”

Simon is from a well-known family in Westmeath. He is one of the 11 children of his parents. And 7 of these kids are in the music industry. His brother, Tom Sheerin used to play fiddle and was the musical director of Nathan Carter’s band for several years.

Simon has himself worked with several bands. The engagement happened on 17 December 2020. She also said:

“Simon is obviously from the fantastic Sheerin family, who are wonderful musicians, and I’ve known him for years. I always saw Simon through other events and then he joined my band as the MD,” 

“We’re best friend and we’ve been together as a couple now for two years. It has worked out so beautifully because we were friends to begin with.

“We had such a great relationship and now, of course, it has blossomed into something so much more. Apart from everything else he is also a fantastic cook and I’m not, so that actually works out great too,”
