Darwin Nunez also known as Darwin Gabriel Nunez Ribeiro is a professional Uruguayan footballer who is known as a striker for Uruguay’s national team and club Liverpool.

He was selected for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Playing in local clubs La Luz and San Miguel before he was scouted by former Uruguay international Jose Perdomo at the age of 14.

Club Career

Following his career, he made his debut on 22nd November 2017 in Primera Division. He was on Penarol as a second-half substitute for Maxi Rodriguez in a 2-1 loss against River Plate Montevideo.

He scored his first professional goal on the 13th of October 2018 and on the 14th of July 2019 he scored a hat-trick 4-0 against Boston River.

On 29th August 2019, Nunez signed a contract for five years in Segunda Division club Almeria. He made his debut for the club on the 3rd of October 2019, as he was there as a half-time substitute. On 27th October Nunez scored his first goal for his club to win against Extremadura with a penalty.

On 4th September 2020, a Portuguese club, Benfica signed Nunez a five-year contract. Almeria’s and the Segunda Division made their biggest transfer as the club was receiving 20% of a future transfer. He made his debut for the club for the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League Third qualifying round after eleven days after joining the club.

He scored his first goal and hat-trick for the club against Lech Poznan leading the victory 4-2 in the 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League group stage match. On 21st August 2021, he made his return from injury.

Liverpool

On 13th June 2022, Liverpool confirmed the deal with Benfica as they reached the club agreement. On 30th July Nunez made his debut for Liverpool in a 3-1 win against Manchester City in the FA Community Shield.

Nunez scored his first league goal for Liverpool against Fulham in Premier League on 6th August.

On 12th October, he scored his first goal for Liverpool in the Champions League.

International Career

Nunez used to play for youth international and senior teams. He took part in the 2019 FIFA U-20 Championship. He made his debut as a senior international against Peru leading the game to a draw of 1-1.
