Derrick Rose, American basketball point guard was creating a buzz in his game from a very early age. His awards came at an early age. Derrick is happy and recently, he recalled the day he had an opportunity to visit the grand mansion of the basketball legend, Michael Jordan.

Derrick Rose and his visit to Michael Jordan’s mansion

During a recent sit-down, American basketball player and one of the greatest point guard, Derrick Rose revealed the day that he got the chance to be a guest at Michael Jordan’s expensive mansion. The invitation to pay a visit to the mansion came from Michael’s children, Jeffrey and Marcus. At that time, Derrick was just 15 years of age and studying in his sophomore year of high school.

The player Derrick recalled with nostalgia that Michael has always been his inspiration. Derrick hails from and grew up in Chicago. Hence, before he visited Michael’s home, he was very nervous. Derrick said with awe:

“I just remember getting into the gate-you see the 23 in the gate. The gate open-we drive in and you see, like this impeccable landscape…So we get to the house, it’s like a palace, it’s like a complex. And you see five or six vehicles out there…there were six Bentleys…blew me away,”

He added:

“The whole time I’m thinking I’m not gonna see MJ, he gonna be somewhere else in the house…We entered the door, it was where the gym was…They[Jordan and his sons] were in there hooping. That whole time I watched them, every second while I was there. I watched him[MJ] the entire time, watched him be a dad, watched him take out garbage, like things I never thought I’d be able to see,”

Derrick and his fame

Derrick has carved a name for himself at a very early age of his life. He is now 34 but after his 2008 NBA draft into his home team Chicago Bulls, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year in 2009. His uphill progress has been rapid. And in 2011, at his age of 22, he won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award. He is the youngest player to get this award.

Derrick is a three-time All-Star. And Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan had pinned their hopes on him. They wanted him to win and get back the glory of 1990s for his team. But unfortunately, Derrick suffered some injuries that diluted the prospects of such a win.

Michael’s Highland Park mansion

Michael used to reside in the Highland Park mansion that Derrick visited. He used to be there with his family until the time he divorced his wife, Juanita Vanoy in 2006. But the house is spread over seven acres. It has 56,000 square feet living area.

The interiors of the place is heavily decorated and customized. And Michael had listed it for sale at a price of USD 29000000. Due to its location in Chicago suburbs and high price, it has not yet attracted buyers. And the property remains unsold to date. It has been on the market for sale for more than ten years.

Michael has halved the price and tried some incentive ways. But it did not help sell it. He tried to lure buyers by saying that with the purchase, a complete set of Air Jordans is free. But no one was interested. Michael is paying annually USD 100k in property tax for this enormous house.

The mansion has a tennis court and an infinity pool with a central grass island. It has a pond with fish in it. There is a game room with a pool table and a full basketball court in the center. There are nine bedrooms and 19 bathrooms. It has a gym and a cigar room and lots more.
