Who is Douglas Kenney?

Douglas Kenney was an American actor and writer. He also founded the magazine National Lampoon in 1970.

Some of his notable writes include Bored of the Rings, National Lampoon, and National Lampoon’s 1964 High School Yearbook Parody.

On August 27, 1980, Douglas died at the age of 33 after he jumped from a 35-foot cliff called the Hanapepe Lookout.

Before his death, he wrote a note in which he poured his emotion to his girlfriend, “Those days with her… were the best I’ve ever ignored.”

Douglas Kenney was born on December 10, 1946, in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA. He was the son of Estelle “Stephanie” and Daniel “Harry” Kenney. Talking about his nationality, he was American and his ethnicity was Irish and Polish.

Moving towards his education, he attended Gilmour Academy which was a Catholic prep high school for boys.

Later, Douglas Kenney enrolled at Harvard University where he was a member of the Signet society as well as the editor of The Harvard Lampoon.

Douglas Kenney began his career as a writer. He rose to prominence as he founded the magazine National Lampoon in 1970. During his time at Harvard University, he was a member of the Signet Society. Furthermore, he regularly collaborated with Henry Beard when he wrote the short novel Bored of the Rings in 1969.

Later in 1970, Douglas Kenney along with his friends Henry Beard and fellow Harvard alumnus Robert Hoffman. Initially, he wrote a lot of Lampoon’s early material including “Mrs. Agnew’s Diary”. Moreover, his other notable works are Caddyshack which he produced and wrote with Brian Doyle-Murray and Harold Ramis.

Some of his notable writes are Bored of the Rings, National Lampoon, and National Lampoon’s 1964 High School Yearbook Parody. Additionally, he got a nomination from The Writers Guild of America for his National Lampoon’s Animal House. Besides this, he has also played in a couple of shows such as Caddyshack and Heavy Metal.

On August 27, 1980, Douglas died at the age of 33 after he jumped from a 35-foot cliff called the Hanapepe Lookout.
