Gay Boxer Mike Turner challenges homophobic trollers in the ring

Mike Turner, 29, is reportedly the first Britain openly gay male boxer. He recently made headlines after getting back into the ring more than a decade away from boxing.
He was introduced as the first gay male boxer in his recent fight. While there are some queer women boxers in Britain but there are no well-known LGBTQ+ male boxers.
Nicola Adams is an openly lesbian former professional boxer, who retired in 2019.
While Mike is following in the footsteps of his father and brother, who were both boxers. Besides, the gay boxer is a model who recently competed in the Mr. Gay England 2022 pageant where he finished the second position.
Last month, Mike competed in SM Fight Club’s event at MECA in Swindon, Wilts, England. His opponent was the more experienced boxer, Callum Gooch, although, Turner won the match.
After winning the match, he stated,
“On the night, in my head, I thought people would think that I couldn’t win the fight because I’m a gay man. I had a lot of self-doubts; I thought people would expect me to lose.”
Mike is now continuing his training at Alpha Boxing Gym. Similarly, he plans to compete in another fight in the upcoming December.
Mike challenges homophobic trollers in the ring
Mike has always been open about his sexuality so it is no stranger to receive negative comments on social media.
He said in a recent interview that he’d love to face a homophobic troll in the ring. He told,
” I want to show the homophobic bullies not to underestimate a gay man, and I want to push boundaries and accomplish what no one else has before,”
“Hopefully, in December, I’ll be in the ring again – I’d really like to fight an internet troll, as they seem to have a lot to say and want to judge me online,”
Mike knew he was gay from a young age, however, in reality, he disclosed that he “never wanted” to be. He revealed once he even tried to hide. He expressed,
“As I got older I lived with it, accepted it, and embraced it,”
However, he is now proud to be openly gay. He then continued,
“Anyone who has been a victim of homophobic abuse I dedicate what I’m doing to them,”
“I want to inspire everyone to know it’s alright to be who you want to be.”
The 29-years-old boxer is also hoping to work on a campaign called “No Need to Hush,” which will help people who are struggling with their sexuality to come out
