“We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Nelsan Ellis. Nelsan was a long-time member of the HBO family whose groundbreaking portrayal of Lafayette will be remembered fondly within the overall legacy of True Blood. Nelsan will be dearly missed by his fans and all of us at HBO”.

The creator and executive producer of the drama “True Blood” Alan Ball called the actor a “singular talent.” Followingly, he also mentioned his creativity never stopped being amazed.

Moreover, Octavia Spencer, Ellis’ co-star in the movie The Help, took to Instagram and expressed,

“Just got word that we lost (Nelsan). My heart breaks for his kids and family.”

The actor who was born in Illinois started his career in 2002. The playwright and stage director, who studied at Juilliard, performed the role of Lafayette in the HBO drama series from 2008 to 2014. More recently he appeared in the CBS detective series “Elementary,” including the just-wrapped fifth season.

Above one decade and a half in the industry, Ellis has been able to make a handful of work credits which include Get On Up, Without a Trace, The Stanford Prison Experiment, The Inside, Little Boxes, The Butler, The Help, and so on.

Ellis is survived by his family which includes his grandmother, his father, his son, Breon, and as well as seven siblings.
